Unpatched vulnerabilities are bad. Even an up-to-date version of a browser with unpatched vulnerabilities puts your computer at risk.
"Opera is the fastest of all. The speed score is a proof that this application is using some kind of super-code for Javascript. The security is pretty tight and it almost aligned to the other two. The interface is just gorgeous and the functionality is at abnormal (read above normal) standards."
The "security" that the article tested was only blocking phishing sites. However, Opera has superior security overall (everyone who commented on the article agrees with this). There is far too much information for me to go into detail here but there is an excellent comparison on www.webdevout.net.
| Technology | IE 7 | Firefox 2 | Opera 9 |
|---|---|---|---|
| HTML / XHTML | 73% | 90% | 85% |
| CSS 2.1 | 56% | 91% | 94% |
| CSS 3 changes | 13% | 24% | 19% |
| DOM | 51% | 79% | 84% |
| ECMAScript | 99% | 100% | 100% |
In other words, IE falls way below Opera and Firefox. Standards support is very important to web developers because it saves a LOT of time creating and testing web pages.
Standards support is important to you because webmasters can utilize new technologies to bring you better web pages that display correctly on your screen. IE's refusal to support standards puts costs up and slows the web down.
In my humble opinion Opera is the best browser. (I made this awesome page, so you know I must like it.) It's loaded with functions, it's user friendly, it's super-configurable, it's safe and secure, and it's standards compliant. Its great for the both the apathetic and the energetic. What more could you ask for? Seriously.. give it a try!
