Unifying Theory

Opera Is Your Friend

What the &@#% is Opera??!?

Opera is a full featured cross-platform web browser. Opera gives you the tools to experience the Web your way.

So... Why would I want Opera??

I don't usually get excited about software but Opera is truly amazing. Opera is fast, safe, easy to use, and has tons of features. It has too many features to list here; you can check them out at www.opera.com. For instance, I can't live without mouse gestures, content blocking, and saved sessions. Seriously.. give it a try!

Let's compare up-to-the-minute security:

Unpatched vulnerabilities are bad. Even an up-to-date version of a browser with unpatched vulnerabilities puts your computer at risk.

Firefox Solution Status
Internet Explorer Solution Status

Let's compare speed and functionality

I found an article on news.softpedia.com comparing the latest versions of Opera, Firefox, and Internet Explorer (IE).

"Opera is the fastest of all. The speed score is a proof that this application is using some kind of super-code for Javascript. The security is pretty tight and it almost aligned to the other two. The interface is just gorgeous and the functionality is at abnormal (read above normal) standards."

The "security" that the article tested was only blocking phishing sites. However, Opera has superior security overall (everyone who commented on the article agrees with this).
Please also note: Using OpenDNS is a far better way to avoid phishing sites.

Let's compare standards support

There is far too much information for me to go into detail here but there is an excellent comparison on www.webdevout.net.

Technology IE 7 Firefox 2 Opera 9
HTML / XHTML 73% 90% 85%
CSS 2.1 56% 91% 94%
CSS 3 changes 13% 24% 19%
DOM 51% 79% 84%
ECMAScript 99% 100% 100%

In other words, IE falls way below Opera and Firefox. Standards support is very important to web developers because it saves a LOT of time creating and testing web pages.

Standards support is important to you because webmasters can utilize new technologies to bring you better web pages that display correctly on your screen. IE's refusal to support standards puts costs up and slows the web down.

Conclusion

In my humble opinion Opera is the best browser. (I made this awesome page, so you know I must like it.) It's loaded with functions, it's user friendly, it's super-configurable, it's safe and secure, and it's standards compliant. Its great for the both the apathetic and the energetic. What more could you ask for? Seriously.. give it a try!
